The trek to Poon hill in the lower Annapurnas is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and offers some of the best mountain-viewing on the Annapurna circuit. One of the world's most dazzling sunrises can be seen from the summit of Poon hill. The trek begins two hour's journey from Pokhara, where we cross the Modhi Kola river and begin our ascent through beautiful countryside and rhododendron forests to Poon hill, from where we encounter unrivaled panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri's snowcapped summits. On descending to Pokhara we are given a fascinating glimpse into Gurung culture in Ghandruk village, Nepal's second largest Gurung settlement.

Day 1: You will be received at the airport by representatives from Mountain Sisters and SLC level students from the Mitrata-Nepal children's home and provided transportation to your hotel.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Dig in to the culture around Kathmandu valley today - try Newari khaja and soak in a nice vista in Kiritipur, take an amazing cable car ride to the temple at Manakamana, see the living Goddess at Kumari temple, or visit Nepal's famous Hindu pilgrimage site at Pashupatinath. We will meet in the evening before dinner to discuss trip preparations and answer any questions before our departure in the morning.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Pokhara: 6-7 hours drive or 30 minutes flight
Drive or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Spend the evening relaxing on the stunningly scenic shores of Phewa lake.

Day 4: Pokhara to Tikhedunga (1,577m/5,173ft): 2 hour drive and 6 hour walk
Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and begin our trek at nearby Birethani on the banks of the Modi river. Trek up the side of the valley to Tikhedhunga.

Day 5: Tikhedunga to Ghorepani (2,855m/9,366ft): 5 hour walk
Today we make a steady climb through oak and rhododendron forests to Ghorepani.

Day 6: Ghorepani to Poon Hill and Tadapani (2,680m/8,792ft): 4-5 hour walk
The highlight of our journey begins with an hour's climb to Poon Hill before dawn. From the summit of Poon hill we witness one of the world's most unforgettable sights as the sun rises over an incredible landscape of snowcapped peaks stretching from Annapurna to Dhaulagiri. After spending the morning admiring the scenery, we return to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue to Tadapani.

Day 7: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,950m/6,397ft): 4-5 hour walk
We descend through wooded valley trails from Tadapani to Ghandruk village, Nepal's second largest Gurung settlement. Explore the village and learn about Gurung culture at the museum and handicraft center.

Day 8: Ghandruk to Pokhara: 2-3 hour walk and 2 hour drive
Enjoy spectacular views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhare (fishtail) on the descent from Ghandruk village to Syauli Bazaar. We hike down through terraced fields and villages to the Modi river, which we follow for a short time to Nayapul. From Nayapul we catch a bus to Pokhara.

Day 9: Pokhara to Kathmandu: 6-7 hours drive or 30 minutes flight
Depart after breakfast via plane or bus for Kathmandu. You will be provided transportation to the hotel of your choice.

Days 10 and 11
: Spice up your sightseeing around Kathmandu with optional days spent volunteering at the Mitrata-Nepal children's home. This is a great opportunity to meet the children for whom your travels with Mountain Sisters will benefit. Join the children for music or dance classes, help out in our gardens and chicken coop, or assist with lessons in our student's classrooms.
